People seem to like it when I blab on about design theories so here are some more.
These are some cat designs I did for another movie concept of mine. I think these are a good example of doing your homework for a design. I had to look at lots of photos of cats and actually sketch my own cats from life. I wanted to have an evil looking cat. I've always like the angles that occur when a cat strikes a pose. I found a breed of giant Russian house cats that was very long and lean with very pronounced angular shapes. Then I worked out the shapes in rough sketches based on the anatomy then exaggerated and caricatured the subject adding the expression and attitude the character portrays.
And most important, especially in this case, the silhouette!

Wow! Those drawings are gorgeous! Really scary too!
Hey Bob, something I've been wondering, how much of Sven Hoek did you write?
Hi James, Thanks!
Anonymous,
I wrote all of it. John of course as director had plenty of input. Then he got fired and I finished the cartoon. By the way I would appreciate it if I knew who I was talking to.
hey bob, we sure love to read your theories on design, cartooning, construction, etc! i printed out your drawing tips some time ago and are very useful to me, i always keep them handy.
of course more of them are always welcome!
THANKS!
Hey Julian,
I'm happy that you like my notes and sketches and that they are helpful.
Thanks for the nice comments!
I'm nobody you know, I just remember hearing John say something about how he didn't like how you put your name before his in the opening credits and that you "had very little if anything to do with the story". I'll take your word for it though.
HA! John is such a victim. He has MY storyboard and outline for Stimpy's Invention on his blog as an example of his genius. Lotsa theories! It's true he had quite a lot of influence on Sven because we gagged it up together and he started out directing it and had a lot of fun doing it. But I worked my ass off on that cartoon and promised him that I would finish it and really make it great. For him! I figure I earned whatever credit I got on it.
These cat drawings are beautiful and fascinating! I like how drew the heads and the eyes!=)
I love cats! :3
Cats are the funniest animals in the world!
This cat is beautiful ! And I didn't know who wrote all of Sven Hoek Bob. In that case, thank you for writing my all time favorite episode !
Thanks Stefanie. I love cats too.
Hi PC,
Thanks. A lot of people worked on Sven. I can't take all the credit for it.
